Egyptian women fight sexual harassment

Young females win international UN competition with “HARASSmap.org” and „Girls Radio Station Only“

Nigeria, September 2011. Engy Ghozlan and Amani Eltunsi are among the winners of the World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) 2011. Their digital ventures “HARASSmap.org” and „Girls Radio Station Only“ are directed against sexual violence and give voice to Egypt’s women, living in a male dominated society. The WSYA jury altogether selected 18 awardees from 700 submissions and 99 countries. With four winning projects coming from Egypt, the country stands at the international forefront. For the fourth time WSYA assigns digital media products from young creatives under the age of 30 who take direct action on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

A working group for creating green jobs, lead by Vestas’ President and CEO Ditlev Engel, is calling on G20 heads of states to facilitate green job creation.

The irony will not be lost on readers that the group is lead byVestas, which recently announced it will lay off 3000 people – mainly in Denmark.

The green jobs working group wants G20 leaders to commit to:

Setting a robust price on carbon – high enough and stable enough to change people’s behaviour and investment decisions;
Scale up research and development – and do so dramatically;
Eliminate fossil fuel subsidies as quickly as possible – and within five years at most; and
Allow free trade in environmental goods and services.
